K1N Navassa Island

K1N Navassa Island Press Release
It is now about 4 weeks before K1N goes on the air. The exact date of departure from the staging area will be dependent upon a combination of the date U.S. FWS transportation is available and upon weather windows.  It is looking like K1N will be QRV the first two weeks of February.

Most of the team have their bags packed and are ready to go. Because of the helicopter logistics, this will be a no-frills-minimum-comfort operation for the team. Meals will be MRE’s. The container has been organized for a quick camp setup and quick radio/antenna setup to take advantage of every moment. It is estimated there will be two full days of helicopter shuttles to get everything needed to start operations. A small team of FWS personnel will accompany us, including armed Federal Law Enforcement Officers. Efficiency is not just for the team, but also for the DX community.  It has been over 22 years since Navassa was activated and USFWS will not allow another operation for at least 10 more years.  This is a ONCE IN 32 YEARS opportunity to work Navassa! Everyone can make the most of this opportunity by LISTENING to the operator’s instructions and following the cadence of the operator. We will not be working all modes on all bands, but limiting most bands to a specific mode, so that we can work the pileups down to the last little pistol.

Fund raising has been going well.  The team has contributed about half of the total budget. For those in the U.S., it is possible to make a year-end tax-deductible donation, directed through the Northern California DX Foundation. See our website and follow the instructions on the DONATE tab.

We have a Facebook page to watch and a Twitter feed (@navassa2015) to follow along.

SDRanywhere

Operate RFSPACE SDRs anywhere in the world
on your Android tablet, Windows, Linux or Mac OS

The SDRanywhere application is an Android app that allows remote operation of an RFSPACE SDR-IQ or CloudSDR radio anywhere in the world. The demodulated audio and waterfall information is compressed and sent to the client application using a low bandwidth internet connection. The upcoming CloudSDR has a built in server and it connects directly into an ethernet jack or WIFI client. It can serve as a remote sensor node or remote RX point. The SDR-IQ requires a computer running the server app.

The server application for the SDR-IQ is part of the Windows RemoteSDRClient project inSourceforge. This client application is open source. The RemoteSDR download also includes a PC, Linux or Max OS client to connect to the SDR-IQ and CloudSDR radios.

Ham band 20 Mt.

The instructions for the RemoteSDRClient and server setup are available here:

The Android application is currently in beta and will expire on February 1, 2014. It is a .APK file for Android 4.0 and newer devices it can be downloaded here:

RFSPACE maintains a Web Server list showing the radios that are publicly available. Any user with the Android or PC clients is welcome to connect.

VOA RADIOGRAM - FlDigi - 3-4 January 2015

Hello friends,

Because of difficult mid-winter shortwave propagation, one of this weekend's VOA News items will be in MFSK16 (55 wpm), to see if it will provide a more successful text decode than our usual MFSK32 (120 wpm).

The printout of Fldigi,  under its default settings, displays the name of the previous mode rather than the mode that has just started. If you want the name of the just-started mode in your printout and log file, make the following adjustments to Fldigi:
1) Configure > Notifications
2) Under Event, select RSID Reception
3) Click Add
4) Click the box to the right of "Append to RX text:"
5) This should appear in the box: RSID: $RX_MARKER
6) Click Update
7) Click Close

(Fldigi 3.22.04 is now available from http://www.w1hkj.com/download.html , although this particular update is not necessary for this weekend's VOA Radiogram.)

VOA Radiogram 3-4 January 2015

Here is the lineup for VOA Radiogram, program 92, 3-4 January 2015 (in MFSK 32 except where noted):

RADIO BAYAN WEST - AFGANISTAN

HF Pre-Amplifier (500 KHZ - 54 MHZ) or (30 KHz – 30 MHz)

2x J310 Push-Pull Low-noise HF pre-Amplifier

(500 KHZ - 54 MHZ) or (30 KHz – 30 MHz)

by SV1AFN.

Makis Katsouris, SV1AFN.

Schema (500KHz-60 MHZ)

Trasformatori T1 e T2 per 500 KHz – 60 MHz

T1 binoculare BN43-2402 primario 2 spire secondario 8 spire (4+4) diametro 0,2 mm
T2 binoculare BN43-202 primario 2 spire secondario 10 spire (5+5) diametro 0,2 mm

Trasformatori T1 e T2 per 50 KHz – 30 MHz

T1 binoculare BN43-2402 primario 3 spire secondario 12 spire (6+6) diametro 0,2 mm
T2 binoculare BN43-2402 primario 3 spire secondario 14 spire (7+7) diametro 0,2 mm
